News : Unfortunately our Second Birthday Party and future scheduled events have been cancelled. Fed up of going to clubs promising Indie-dance-fun but finding yourself
standing dead listening to some dull un-danceable twaddle?
Additionally, we've noticed a shocking lack of good quality Britpop websites. While the always superb Wikipedia is a good start for reference and facts, we want to do something that has a bit of feeling and emotion to it. Check out the Britpop section of the website to get an idea of what we're planning, and see if you fancy giving us a hand. Still not sure what we're all about? Maybe our manifesto (yes, a manifesto) will help explain. Headings are things that we think should always be kept to, and they are followed by a bit about what we're doing at the moment to keep to the rule. Burn Soo Bright: What We Think A Club Should Be1. Entry Must Be CheapPeople shouldn't feel stuck in clubs where they've paid a fortune to get in. How many times have you stood about in a club for hours, hoping for something good to be played so you can have a dance, but you don't want to leave because you've just shelled out a tenner for entry? Too many times, that's what. For the forseeable future we won't charge anything at all, so if you find it's not for you, you can always go somewhere else. 2. The DJs Should (Try To) DanceIf the person who picks the music can't dance to a tune, then how can the people on the dancefloor? It's amazing how many clubs we've been to where the DJ is too interested in showing off to realise the dancefloor has emptied because the song was too slow or un-danceable. 3. The DJs Should Play Only Songs They LikeYou've got to have some quality control somewhere. By all means do come up to the DJs and have a chat about the music and even ask for your favourite song to be played - just don't get upset if we decide that the song won't work. Don't worry though, as we alternate DJs throughout all our nights it can't get too one-sided. For example, if the current DJ isn't a fan of Suede then another one is likely to be. 4. Make Each Night UniqueWe won't play the same set list week-in week-out; although some favourites are sure to get a spin regularly. To do this we have a theme for each night, and we try to play at least a quarter of the music to fit it. That means we're wracking our brains for long-forgotten songs, asking for your ideas, and doing something different each time. Check out the previous nights to see what this has unleashed. 5. Get You InvolvedIf the points above ring true for you, you like Britpop and fancy a fun night out, then it's likely that we want to hear from you, as well as see you at our parties. Contact us with ideas, requests, or even if you just fancy a chat. Most sections of the site will have a way for you to join in, so please do so. Even if you don't live in London, you might want to help us with the A New Home For Britpop part of the site. Run a Britpop club somewhere else in the world? We'd love to share ideas and have a chat. |
